The Meenakshi Temple is a marvel of architecture in the city of Madurai, in Tamil Nadu, and is one of South India's most famous temples. It is dedicated to Meenakshi or Parvati goddess and her husband, Lord Shiva. Its 14 gopurams, thousands of columns, a glass of gold above the sanctuary and about 33,000 sculptures are unique features of the temple. The temple, which is situated across around 45 acres, is also one of its biggest temple in the country. |
