The flamingo is the national bird of the Bahamas. The term 'flamingo' originates from Spanish and Latin meaning fire which naturally refers to its brilliant rose feathers. For many hours a day, flamingos may filter feed into the water. Most plumage of Flamingo is rose-white but the covering of the wing is red and the feathers are black. The bill has a pink-black spike and the legs are pink. The call is like goose-like honking. The chick has a fluffy grey coating.
