The length of the adult chimaera is 60-200 cm. They have long, very big tapering bodies. Its color changes with smooth skin from black to blue to brownish grey. Large green and transparent eyes assist to see them in the deep dark. Short-nosed chimaeras are often called “ratfish” because of their long, tapering tails.
