Most piranha species never reach greater than 60 cm (2 ft) in length. Colors from silver to nearly entirely black with orange undersides vary. The common fishes have deep bodies, bowels with a saw and huge blunt heads with powerful jaws, with sharp, triangular teeth, which meet in a scissorlike bite. |
