Tarpons may reach lengths of 4-8 feet (1.2-2.4 metres) and weigh 60-280 lb. They have bluish or greenish backs with delicate dorsal and anal rays. Tarpons, besides the head, have dazzling silvery scales that cover the majority of their body.
