Sri Harmandir Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple, is one of Amritsar's most popular attractions and spiritual centre. This is the holiest Sikh temple. Over the years, the temple has undergone several renovations, adding new elements, such as marble inlays along the floor. Sikh Empire founder Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1799-1849) had the temple's upper floors coated with 750 kilogrammes of pure gold to make it look more regal. |
